In the month of October, travel plans took off. For one weekend, me and three other friends took off to the Valley of Desolation (also the picture for the overall October tab). While there was not much else there other than the hike in the valley, it was beautiful. The area was so silent that it was nice just to sit at the edge of the rocks, take in the view, and listen to the silence.
In town, we did find a couple of hidden easter eggs. We had dinner at a cute cafe that had an outdoor sitting area in the center. There were lights strung up overhead, and everything was decorated in a Sunday Brunch type of way. Also, we found this amazing tea and coffee shop that sold delicious organic green apple tea. We walked by a church in the center of the town, and found a antique store with a cake from 1902! It was crazy. The woman who owned the house said she found many of the items in her attic. The cake was my favorite part of the house. On the way back, we stopped at a place where they rehabilitated wildcats. I was able to pet a cheetah. The woman leading the tour of the place was incredibly informative, and explained the care and concern they take in making sure the animal’s well being is of upmost importance. Traveling around in South Africa was easy. Renting a car was cheap, accommodations were cheap, and the price to eat out was the same as making your own food. The country has so many places to offer for fun weekend trips.
